Conservante Fragard

Solución conservante natural de origen vegetal con aroma a vainilla y almendra.

Fragard es un ingrediente multifuncional derivado de materias primas vegetales que combina la conservación con la perfumación de la fórmula. Gracias a su amplio espectro de actividad frente a bacterias, levaduras y mohos, permite formular productos cosméticos sin conservantes sintéticos clásicos, manteniendo al mismo tiempo la estabilidad microbiológica del producto terminado.

Su aroma dulce con notas de vainilla permite prescindir de una fragancia adicional en muchas fórmulas, lo que lo convierte en una solución práctica para emulsiones, geles o productos de limpieza suave. Es un ingrediente adecuado para formulaciones naturales y productos destinados a evitar el uso de conservantes convencionales.

Características técnicas

  • Aspecto: Líquido transparente; de incoloro a amarillo pálido; olor dulce característico con una nota de vainilla
  • Solubilidad: Dispersable en agua hasta una concentración del 0,6%
  • Calidad: Ingrediente de origen vegetal, formulado de acuerdo con las recomendaciones de IFRA
  • Dosis recomendada: 0,4 - 1% como solución conservante completa, dependiendo del tipo de formulación

Estudios científicos y documentación

Según los estudios realizados por el fabricante de este ingrediente, la eficacia antimicrobiana se evaluó mediante la determinación de la Concentración Mínima Inhibitoria (CMI), establecida en un 0,5% para las principales cepas de referencia: Staphylococcus aureus (Gram+), Pseudomonas aeruginosa y Escherichia coli (Gram-), Candida albicans (levadura) y Aspergillus brasiliensis (moho).

También según el fabricante, se realizaron pruebas de desafío microbiológico (protección completa) en varios tipos de formulaciones terminadas, geles no iónicos y aniónicos, emulsiones O/W y champús, a concentraciones del 0,5% y del 1%. Todas las formulaciones ensayadas cumplieron el Criterio A de la Farmacopea Europea, lo que indica una tasa óptima de reducción de la carga microbiana. La eficacia antimicrobiana se mantiene en un amplio intervalo de pH entre 4,0 y 9,0.

Guía de formulación

  • Dosis recomendada: 0,4 - 1% como solución conservante completa
  • En emulsiones O/W (aceite en agua), añadir al final del proceso de formulación a una temperatura máxima de 40°C
  • En sistemas transparentes, como los hidrogeles, es necesario utilizar un solubilizante
  • En productos de limpieza a base de tensioactivos, añadir directamente a la mezcla de tensioactivos
  • Dispersable en agua hasta un 0,6%; para dosis superiores, añadir la cantidad restante al final, una vez homogeneizada la fase principal
  • Compatible con la mayoría de las sustancias utilizadas habitualmente en cosmética

Seguridad de uso y almacenamiento

  • Perfil: Ingrediente con buena tolerancia cutánea, no irritante y no sensibilizante según las pruebas in vivo (prueba de parche) realizadas por el fabricante
  • Precauciones: Solo para uso cosmético externo; evitar el contacto directo con los ojos
  • Almacenamiento: Conservar en un recipiente bien cerrado, en un lugar fresco y protegido de la luz directa

It's my favorite preservative because it also has a great smell for me, slightly almondy and sweet. I replace Cosgard in any recipe with fragard just because it has this wonderful smell, I'm just sorry I can't use it in toning lotions.

A very interesting 2 in 1 product - effective preservative but also a great fragrance from my point of view, as of all the fragrances I've tried this is the only one I really like and don't sneeze at. And the fact that it is usable in a wide pH range is definitely the third strong point! It's true that I haven't yet had the courage to use it for reactive, atopic skin, intolerant even to therapeutic essential oils specifically designed for this condition, but reading some reviews maybe I will manage to do it. On another note, I am extremely curious about the composition of this product which remains a top secret of the manufacturer ... although, I have a strong suspicion that I have elucidated part of the secret and I will share it here for those as curious as me: the pure product smells to me 90% of lilac! And looking for studies, I found a lot that analyze and highlight the exceptional antimicrobial, antioxidant, antiproliferative, etc. properties of extracts from certain species of lilac (Syringa sp.) 😉

It smells great, especially for a preservative. I have had no problems with products preserved with it, (admittedly I haven't even exceeded the recommended times of use) and it has not caused any allergic reactions.

It is a broad-spectrum preservative, indicated for emulsions and offers a good preservative efficiency, in my experience for 1 year at 1% concentration and under conditions of storage of the cream at 25 degrees Celsius and without humidity
